Rosie White NEW ALBANY, GIRLS TRACK
White, a senior, collected 10 firsts in three meets last week.http://ee.dispatch.com/Daily/Images/Common/HitArrow.gifWhite won the 100 meters twice (12.39 and 12.5 seconds), the 200 twice (25.68, 25.7) and the long jump twice (17 feet, 11 inches each time). She also anchored the 800 relay to two firsts and ran on victorious 400 and 1,600 relay teams. White is ranked No. 1 in the area in the long jump and No. 3 in the 100 and 200, and the 800 relay is second.

Ryan Engle GAHANNA, BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Engle, a senior, had 46 kills, four aces, 10 solo blocks and seven assisted blocks in leading the Lions to five wins last week,http://ee.dispatch.com/Daily/Images/Common/HitArrow.gifincluding the Silver Bracket championship in the Wolf Classic at Worthington Kilbourne. He had a perfect serve receive percentage in four of the five games. In the Wolf Classic championship, he had eight kills, one solo block and one assisted block, and was perfect serving and in serve receive in a 25-8, 25-20, 25-18 win over Stow.

The College Bound-Dispatch high school athlete of the week,based on performances from March 10-16:

Greg Avery
NEWARK, BOYS BASKETBALL
Avery, a 6-foot-4 senior guard, powered Newark to a state championship last weekend, the Wildcats’ first since 1943. In a 63-44 Division I semifinal victory over Toledo Whitmer, he totaled 16 points, nine rebounds and two assists. In the championship game, Avery equaled a career high with 33 points, shooting 14 of 18 from the field. He also grabbed 11 rebounds and had three assists. Avery made third team All-Ohio.

The College Bound-Dispatch athlete of the week based on performances from March 3-9:

Brian Hecker, WORTHINGTON CHRISTIAN, BOYS BASKETBALL
Hecker, a 6-foot-4 junior forward, was instrumental in Worthington Christian gaining its first Division IV state tournament spot since 2001. In a 72-60 regional semifinal victory over Waterford, Hecker scored 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. He had 19 points and nine rebounds as the Warriors defeated Oak Hill 61-42 in the regional final. The Central District and Ohio player of the year, Hecker is averaging 20.7 points and 7.7 rebounds.

 Amber Arter MIFFLIN, GIRLS BASKETBALL
Arter, a 5-foot-3 senior guard, totaled 32 points, six rebounds and four steals as Mifflin defeated Millersburg West Holmes 61-55 in a Division II regional championship game in Zanesville. She scored 20 of her team’s final 23 points. Arter had 16 points in a 36-24 win over Circleville in the semifinal.

Chris Kline WESTERVILLE NORTH, WRESTLING
Kline, a senior, went 4-0 to win the 160-pound class at the Division I state tournament last weekhttp://ee.dispatch.com/Daily/Images/Common/HitArrow.gif and finished 43-0. Kline defeated Cameron Childs of Cincinnati Glen Este 3-1 in the opening round. He pinned his next two opponents, Darren Rhodes of Macedonia Nordonia in 3 minutes, 30 seconds and Tylan Coleman of Mayfield Village Mayfield in 1:37. He defeated JT Rice of Hilliard Davidson 5-0 in the final.

    

The two College Bound-Dispatch athletes of the week based on performances from Feb. 11 thru Feb. 17:
                                                         

Zeke Bayt,  Westerville Central H.S., BOWLING
Bayt, a sophomore, rolled the top three-game series in the sectional tournament at Eastland Lanes. Bayt rolled 247-235-246 for a 728 series as Westerville Central had the top pin count in the tournament.

Ben Siefert,  Bishop Hartley H.S., BASKETBALL
Siefert, a 6-foot-2 senior point guard, scored a career-high 36 points and had five assists in an 84-59 victory over Fairbanks in a Division III sectional tournament game. He went 13 of 17 from the field, including 7 of 8 from three-point range. He scored 30 points in the first half and missed much of the third quarter because of foul trouble.

Hailey Fairchild DUBLIN COFFMAN, GYMNASTICS
Fairchild, a sophomore, helped the Shamrocks capture the Ohio Capital Conference Ohio Division championship by winning the vault (9.05), uneven bars (8.9), balance beam (9.275) and all-around (35.975). It was her highest all-around score this season.

Margo Geer FAIRBANKS, GIRLS SWIMMING

Geer, a sophomore, set two Division II state records in the Thomas Worthington sectional. She won the 50 free (23.42 seconds) and 100 free (50.56). Her time in the 100 free was 10 seconds better than the next competitor. Both times were the fastest in any
division in Ohio this season.

Tori Rafferty
WHETSTONE, SWIMMING
Rafferty, a junior, won two individual events and two relays to help Whetstone win the City League title. She won the 200 free (2 minutes, 22.41 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.42) and swam on the winning 200 free (1:50.74) and 400 free (4:14.62) relay teams. Also, she won the 100 breaststroke (1:16.11) and swam on the winning 200 free and 400 free relay teams in the Centennial Invitational.
 

Anthony Rogers
DUBLIN COFFMAN, HOCKEY Rogers, a senior forward, had nine goals and three assists as Coffman claimed the Capital Hockey Conference regularseason championship. Rogers had five goals and an assist in an 8-1 win over Gahanna, two goals and one assist in a 4-2 win over Olentangy Liberty and two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win over Thomas Worthington.
Rafferty and Rogers will receive plaques from Motorists Insurance.

Shane Gifford, LOGAN ELM, WRESTLING

Gifford, a 145-pound junior, went 6-0 last weekhttp://ee.dispatch.com/Daily/Images/Common/HitArrow.gif. He recorded pins in Mid-State League duals against Fairfield Union and Canal Winchester. He went 4-0 at the Grandview Invitational and won his class. Gifford defeated Zach Nelson of Madison Plains, a 2006 state champion, 4-1 in the final. He was named the tournament’s most valuable wrestler. He is 24-0. points,

 

Scott Thomas BUCKEYE VALLEY, BASKETBALL

Thomas, a 6-foot-7 senior guard-forward headed to Bowling Green, turned in three 30-point games last week.http://ee.dispatch.com/Daily/Images/Common/HitArrow.gif He totaled 36 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in a 105-54 rout of Whitehall, 31 points and 10 rebounds in a 71-50 win over Highland and 31 points and 14 rebounds in a 67-40 victory over North Union. Thomas is averaging 26.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists.

Amber Stokes
GAHANNA, GIRLS BASKETBALL
Stokes, a 5-foot-9 senior guard who has committed to
Ohio State, had 26 points, four steals, four assists and one blocked shot in a 56-47 victory over Hilliard Darby and 29 points, three rebounds, five steals, four assists and two blocked shots in a 63-60 overtime victory over Upper Arlington. She shot 51.2 percent from the field.

 



Michael Lopresti
COLUMBUS ACADEMY, BOYS SWIMMING
Lopresti, a senior who has signed with Missouri, set a school record in winning the 100-yard breaststroke (58.55 seconds) and placed fourth in the 200 individual medley (1:59.09) at the Northeast Classic Swimming and Diving Invitational in Canton. Lopresti also won the 200 IM (2:04.97) and swam on two winning relays in a victory over Wellington and Hartley.


 

The College Bound-Dispatch athletes of the week based on performances from Dec. 30 through Jan. 6:


BROOKHAVEN, BOYS BOWLING
Braswell, a senior, rolled a 216-231–447 series in a win over Westerville North and a 188-256–444 series as the Bearcats beat Grandview. The 256 was a clean game and represents his high game for the season. He is averaging 208.


THOMAS WORTHINGTON, ICE HOCKEY
Rottenbiller, a senior forward, had seven goals and 10 assists in three wins for the Cardinals. In an 8-1 win over Dublin Scioto, he had two goals and four assists. In a 6-4 win over DeSales, Rottenbiller had three goals and three assists. In a 10-0 win over Scioto, he had two goals and three assists.

 

 

The College Bound-Dispatch athletes of the week, based on performances from Dec. 24 through 30: REYNOLDSBURG, GIRLS BASKETBALL
Mullins, a 5-foot-4 point guard, had 29 points and five assists in a 65-54 win over Chagrin Falls Kenston and 17 points and four assists in a 47-37 victory over Beloit West Branch in the Garfield Heights Cage Classic. She made 10 of 16 three-point shots.

 

WESTERVILLE NORTH, GIRLS SWIMMING
Lash, a senior, won four events in a win over Westerville South and Westerville Central. She won the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 14.73 seconds) and set a pool and school record in the 100 freestyle (52.89). She also swam on the pool record-setting 200 freestyle relay (1:42.86) and anchored the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.08).

The two Dispatch/College Bound Athletes of the week
 on performances from Oct. 22 through Oct. 28:
 

Ashton Campbell, WESTERVILLE NORTH, SOCCER
Campbell, a junior, scored two goals in 7-1 district semifinal win over Pickerington Central. In the district final, she scored once in a 3-1 victory over Dublin Coffman. She has 21 goals for the season and has scored in eight straight games dating to Sept. 29.
 

John Batchelder
WORTHINGTON KILBOURNE, CROSS COUNTRY
Batchelder, a senior, won a Division I regional championship at Pickerington North, clocking 15 minutes, 49 seconds. Batchelder outkicked pre-race favorite Joe Jackson of Hilliard Darby (15:50) in the final 30 meters for the victory.
Campbell and Batchelder will receive plaques sponsored by Motorists Insurance.

The two Dispatch/College Bound Athletes of the week
based on performances from Oct. 15
through Oct. 21:

David Haley Jr.,HILLIARD DARBY, GOLF
Haley, a senior, won the Division I boys state championship by shooting 76-77–153 on Ohio State’s par-71 Scarlet Course. Haley was instrumental in leading the Panthers to their first appearance in the tournament. He will play for Minnesota.


Kate Turvy, DUBLIN COFFMAN, TENNIS
Turvy, a junior, repeated as Division I singles champion by winning four matches, including a 6-0, 7-5 win over Stephanie Danesis of Richfield Revere in the final. Turvy won all 30 of her matches this season and has gone a combined 59-0 since her last loss, as a freshman in 2005.
Haley and Turvy will receive plaques sponsored by Motorists Insurance. Coaches in all sports should call 614-461-5234, or 1-800-282-0263 outside Franklin County, from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday with nominations. They also can be e-mailed to sports@dispatch.com by 4 p.m. Monday.
